Trust Your Body—It's Always Working for You

There was a time when I complained constantly about what my body was doing to me.

It's giving me too much pain. It's storing too much fat. It's too complicated. I'm too sensitive.

Sound familiar?

But with time, I started slowing down and realizing something profound: there were far more things working in my favor than against me. The discomfort I experienced wasn't my body betraying me—it was the excess stress, the lack of sleep, and the stored emotions in my body creating signals I desperately needed to hear.

The Lesson That Changed Everything

When I was 15, I trained with a swimming team. I remember my first competition vividly—of course, I wanted to be #1. But my coach pulled me aside and said something that would echo through my life:

"Natalia, we all first walk and then run."

It was a reminder that I needed to cultivate patience, not just to get better at swimming, but to understand my body's journey.

My Journey to Body Trust

During my process of becoming a Functional Nutrition Counselor, I've gone through different stages that have allowed me to learn various methods of understanding the messages my body sends me. I've learned techniques to calm my nervous system and make changes that help me feel better in my body.

With time, I've learned to recognize what I can control and what I can't. But the most important lesson? Recognizing and being grateful for the magnificent job my body does every day—the amazing miracle of waking up each morning and getting to enjoy one more day in this world.

Trusting your body doesn't mean perfection. It means curiosity, compassion, and a willingness to listen. It means recognizing that health is not just about what you eat or how you move, but about the relationship you have with yourself.

As you cultivate body trust, you'll likely find that "healthy" choices become easier—not because you're forcing them, but because they genuinely feel good. That's the difference between sustainable wellness and another short-lived diet attempt.

Your body has been trying to guide you all along. It's time to start listening.

Ready to Rebuild Trust with Your Body?

Start with one small practice this week: Pause before meals and ask yourself, "What does my body actually need right now?" The answer might surprise you.

And remember—we all first walk, then run. Be patient with yourself on this journey.

What is your favorite activity to connect with your body?
